O&O Defrag 2000 is a freeware Windows defragmentation tool. It is completely integrated into the Microsoft Management Console as a snap-in and can be used to replace the standard Windows 2000/XP defragmentation software.
Partitions can be analyzed and manually defragmented with the SPACE defragmentation function. You have now the possibility of showing clusters in the "faded" mode: the clusters are displayed in a brighter or darker color according to how full they are and their content. With the Cluster Inspector you can view the cluster contents and display fragmented files.
O&O Defrag 2000 Freeware is the 'light' version of O&O Defrag 2000 Professional. It provides the SPACE method to manually defragment your drives. The Freeware Edition is absolutely free to use!
O&O Defrag 2000 introduces a new application architecture - it is based on COM/DCOM objects and runs now as a snap-in in the Microsoft Management Console. It allows you to easily administer all application with a single interface.
However, the freeware edition has some restrictions. There is no boot time defragmentation available. Job scheduling and defragmentation of selected partitions is not available. You can find all these powerful features in the retail version of O&O Defrag. It also offers three different defragmentation methods for most complete optimization of your drives: SPACE, COMPLETE/Date, and COMPLETE/Name.
